Minutes 

Celebration meeting 

Thursday, May 29, 2025 @ 6:00 pm in the town office.

 

Attendance:  Patty Dow, Wendy Musiak, Cassie McLaren, Kathy Coulombe, Aaron & Ann tefft, Andrea & Gary Rand, Ronna Brandt. Andrezza Fischer, 

 

Recap of to do’s from last meeting:

Diane Longe cannot be here tonight, but she reported that she did speak to the firemen. They are opting out of the Water Polo being the time of year and it will be to cold. The Fire company gave the OK to use the fire house for the band on Friday night. If they will participate in an extra event is still to be determined.  Diane reported that Grant Fisher will not be able to do fireworks that weekend. Dan Longe said Grant Fisher would be able to get insurance for the day when he does the fireworks show. 

 

The band suggested by Aaron and Ann will be playing on Saturday, from 6pm to 9pm and the Saturday festivities will end at that time. 

 

Aaron & Ann were you able to reach out to the bakeries? Ann: shellys bakery will get together a 15 piece platter of breakfast pastires. 

 

Kathy:  Morris dancing and April for face painting? Kathy:  emailed Marlboro dancers, they are not available, she gave Kathy another team to contact. April for facepainting is available. 

 

Tina reported previously about Dawn Goudreau and about her day. She is excited and in for it all. 

 

Gary:  Bounce house update:  Gary, bounce house has been ordered. 2 of them big and little a person and a generator. 

 

Patty: spoke with Al Dacey and he would be willing to possible work with Aaron tefft and measure officially the larges circumference tree in halfiax. 

T-Shirt updates:

 

Andrea:  made a poster for the old home day using the painting that was the first celebration  in halifax held up on deer park road where the horse farm is. 

 

Gary asked about a bingo fund raiser at the community hall for a fund raiser for the OHD. Wendy will ask Joel about Bingo in July or August.  Patty expressed the difficulty in getting prizes . We will table the idea for everyone to think about until the next meeting. 

 

Movie night tabled until next meeting. 

 

Cassie:  Benediction. Wondered about that. Curious about the flavor of the benediction. 

 

Opening / Closing ceremony:  if people want to go they can it is part of home town life. Ronna asked where it will be? At the community hall at the end of breakfast on the front lawn.  Aaron Tefft volunteered to do the closing and the opening ceremony. Ronna will look for about 6 or 7 cars to be in the parade then park diagonally at the end. Ronna suggested offering apple crisp and ice cream at the community hall.  A donation bucket will be out for the goodies. Ronna can get all the apples for the apple crisp at Clark Orchards. 

 

Wendy and Andrea will look upstairs in the historical society for the old pictures that Diana Hale and I can make into exhibits for the community hall .

 

Ronna Brandt, talked to Joel Howes about putting together a map of the cemeteries about how far they are from each other. And do a display. They are already working on a display of the 250th birthday of Vermont for 2026. 

 

Wendy: disk golf tournament will be done with Justin Stafford and Jason Klump and Joel Howes will all work together on that. Maybe Friday could be an instruction day to come learn how to throw a disk for disk golf. 

 

Ronna will be diving into the parade next week. 

Wendy asked about the marketplace. Gary said the vendors did not sell much. The marketplace will probably not be included in the celebration. 

Aaron/Ann Tefft’s daughter will sell lemonade on Saturday. 

 

Wendy: Marylee Putnam will donate the bus and her time for the bus tour. They need to figure out where to go. She will ask her mom where they went last time. She will talk to Connie Lancaster too about the bus tour. Something on Green River Road rock that was used for Ink. Andrea said that Doug Parkhurst used to like to do the walking tour of the old houses in the village. Cassie will ask Doug about the walking tour of the village. 

 

Andrezza:  Suggested a Halifax wood ornament. She brought in a couple of bandanas of Halifax theme printed on them for sale. Andrea suggested putting the old map of Halifax on something. She suggested shot glasses. 

 

Commemorative items:  ornament cut outs, shot glasses, bandana with maps, coffee mugs, flag in the community hall over the bathroom door. Small flags that can be held and used in the parade. Companies that sell the items. Aaron said we probably want something that is more high end. Etched glasses.  Andrea suggested root beer floats with a commemorative glass. 16 ounce. It was agreed upon to have 16 ounce glasses with either etching or printing on them commemorating Halifax 275 Old Home Day.

 

Wendy said the buntings is at the historical society. Might not be in good condition. 

 

Kathy will help Gary with the pine wood derby contest. Gary will order the cars and look at the weights. 

 

Ann Tefft. Reached out to Learning Legacy Coop to see if they want to  be involved. They are the home school group. 

 

Talked about the items to fill up Saturday.  Pot-luck supper Saturday, andrea pottery, Kathy talked about the cane fu and bring in the elderly and disabled and use chairs and actually teach the technique. Ronna said the self defense part would be interesting and a couple modified chair techniques.  Added old time games, water balloon toss, egg spoon race, 3 leg race. Wheel barrow, potato sack race.  The Pot-Luck may be swapped out for the celebration group to sell baked potatoes and Sausage and onion/pepper grinders like previously. 

 

TO DO’S FROM TONIGHTS MEETING:

Diane Longe will report back is Susan Longe will allow her law to be used for the celebration.  She will also still reach out to pine hill orchards. 

 

Tina: will send out donation letters to stores to obtain gift cards for supplies. 

 

Patty:  will contact carol Otis about her schedule for her events. Friday afternoon for the homestead walk. Inform Wendy of Carols schedule. Get out the maps from the vault for display.  I will contact Andy rice for sheep shearing. Contact Jason about shirt/hat designs. Maple tree/leaf. Stacked animals with a tree behind it. 

 

Wendy will contact Justin or Jason about when they want to do the tournament. Wendy will look into imprint companies for the etching or printing glasses. Wendy uses ink stop for their glass printing. Wendy will get prices for 100 to 150 glasses. 

 

Cassie: will email David jones about his cemetery idea.  And see if he still wanted to do that. Cassie will ask Doug Parkhurst if he is interested in doing the walking tour of the village. 

 

Gary:  will talk to Paul about a cut out ornament, maybe the VT with a heart where Halifax is. Or a maple leaf with Halifax 275 on it. Gary will order the cars and look at the weights. He will look for trophies.  Because  last year we were given one. He will ask Jason about the time for the breakfast. 

 

Ann/Aaron are waiting to hear back from the home school group. And they will look into star fire bakery in Wilmington , Ann will ask for pastry donations.
