January 8, 2014 Minutes

The Halifax Broadband Committee meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at the Halifax Town Office. Present were committee members Earl Holtz, Gretchen Becker, and Jessica Bruno.

Approval of Minutes

Becker made a motion to approve the minutes of the 12/11/13 regular meeting as written. Holtz seconded the motion, which passed 3-0-0.

VTel Wireless Broadband Tower

Holtz gave an update on the recent meetings with VTel and citizens regarding the proposed 4G LTE tower in Halifax. See the Selectboard meeting minutes 1/5/14 and 1/7/14. VTel has asked the Selectboard for a letter of support.

Business Districts

Holtz received an email from VTA looking to set up a meeting on 1/22/14 to discuss how businesses use the Internet. The VTA has agreed to designate the business district submitted for purposes of their project.

Town Report

Becker prepared an update for the town report which was discussed. Holtz will submit a few additional items to Becker for addition and the report will be submitted to the town auditors.

Farmers Market

Becker reported that Whitingham is planning a farmers market. Becker will call and suggest a joint meeting with their economic development committee.

SeVeds

The broadband committee discussed the SeVeds request for funding.  Due to budget increases the committee feels it is not feasible this year.
