The State of Vermont requires each town to appoint a tree warden.  Sue Kelly was appointed tree warden in June 2021.

The responsibilities of the tree warden were expanded with new legislation passed in November 2020.  In addition to consulting with residents and the highway department regarding specific tree issues, tree wardens help their communities with several environmental issues that can impact tree health and thus the overall health of an ecosystem.  These include managing the impacts of the emerald ash borer and other invasive pests, assessing potential hazards related to dead or diseased trees and planning for the preservation of healthy trees in municipal spaces and along roadways.
