OFFICE OF THE SELECTBOARD
Town of Halifax, Vermont
SELECTBOARD SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES

June 1, 2020

Selectboard members Lewis Sumner, Mitchell Green, and Bradley Rafus met at 6:00 p.m. in the Town Garage yard to examine feasible locations for the recycling bins. Stephan Chait was also at the site. The Board chose an area on the flat just to the left of the driveway at the top of the hill as the best position for the bins, and agreed the existing gate could be moved to the bottom of the hill, at the Branch Road intersection. The gate will be open during the day on weekdays, and some weekend hours, and closed to prevent late night access. The Selectmen are also planning installation of security cameras and are currently in discussion with a provider. The bins will be moved later in the summer, notice of the new location and hours will be posted online, on the Town’s bulletin boards, and in a flyer planned for inclusion with 2020 property tax bills. The Conservation Commission will also be working with WSWMD’s Athena Lee Bradley to install a new bulletin board at the recycling site, with information about proper recycling methods. The Selectboard is hopeful that this project will result in a reduction of household trash and non-recyclable materials in and around the recycling bins, and thus a substantial reduction in our recycling costs.

The meeting concluded at 6:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Robbin Gabriel
Selectboard Secretary
