OFFICE OF THE SELECTBOARD
Town of Halifax, Vermont
SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES- DRAFT
February 26, 2013
The Selectboard attended the Informational Meeting to meet the candidates on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 7:00pm at the multipurpose room. Board members in attendance were Edee Edwards, Earl Holtz, and Lewis Sumner.
The town moderator, Patricia Pusey, called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.
Lewis Sumner reported that some people in town have not received their annual report yet. There was a delay at the post office, but everyone should get copies by Wednesday, February 27, 2013. Reports are available at the town office. Bruno posted the annual report to the town website and it is available for download there as well.
The following candidates were present:
Patricia Pusey- Town Moderator/ School Moderator
Edee Edwards- Selectboard member
Charlene Martynowski- Lister
Laura Sumner- Collector of Delinquent Taxes
Homer Chum Sumner- School Director
The candidates introduced themselves and there was a period of question/answer.
Several discussions followed which were directed to the Selectboard as a whole. The Selectboard reviewed the budget for FY14 paying close attention to some of the line items which show a large increase over the prior year. John LaFlamme led a discussion about gravel and the potential for blasting, as well as a discussion concerning the use of the old beams the town has on the Old County North bridge. A discussion followed concerning WASI. Andy Rice reported that there will be a meeting next week at the Whitingham fire house to discuss options. Finally, Edwards led a discussion concerning a 5 person Selectboard due to the increasing burden of work. This would also allow 2 members of the Selectboard to mentor each other or discuss workload, without the need for calling a meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:10pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Jessica Bruno
Halifax Selectboard Secretary
