OFFICE OF THE SELECTBOARD
TOWN OF HALIFAX, VERMONT
EMERGENCY MEETING MINUTES- DRAFT
September 18, 2025
4:00 PM AT THE HALIFAX TOWN OFFICE
CALL TO ORDER
Karen Christofferson called the meeting to order at 4:00pm. Other Selectboard members present were Rhonda Ashcraft, Randy Pike and Lori Marchegiani. No members of the public attended.
NEW BUSINESS
Christofferson explained that this emergency meeting has been called by Pike so that the Selectboard can make a timely decision on the sale or retention of the Town’s 2014 F550 truck following the conclusion of the previously approved auction process. Pike noted that two weeks ago the truck was placed on the site. The auction concluded with the Town receiving a high bid of $9,600.00 Pike explained that the Town needs to respond to the offer by either accepting the offer, retaining the truck or provide a counteroffer.
Pike had hoped to achieve a bid closer to $15,000 however after a conversation with Mike Fournier (Road Supervisor) on September 17th both concluded that the Town should let the truck go rather than retain it. Pike reported that he spoke with Tyler Richardson (Auction manager) about making a counteroffer and learned that if the counteroffer is too high the offer can be withdrawn. A brief discussion regarding a counteroffer of $10,000.00 followed.
Marchegiani expressed her view that a counteroffer of $400 was insufficient for the time and trouble. A discussion followed regarding the repairs that would be needed such as rocker panels, cab corner, rust and it has been sitting so also getting dry. Christofferson and Pike agreed. Pike further stated that he would love to get more for it but we should let it go. Selectboard members present thanked Pike for his work on this.
Pike further noted that the sale is “As is” as noted in the auction site policy and agreement. He explained the process and that Auction International is bonded and receives payment from the buyer. We sign title and hand over the keys then we get the check. It may take a couple weeks to get the check. Christofferson said she took comfort in knowing that the Towns of Wilmington and Shelbourn have used this auction house successfully. Pike noted a $30.00 fee for pictures which is offset on the $9,600 purchase price. The Town should receive payment of $9,570.00
Pike moved to accept the high bid of $9,600 to sell the 2014 Ford 550.
Marchegiani seconded.
