The Halifax Broadband Committee meeting was called to order at 6:39 pm Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Halifax Town Office. Present were committee members Earl Holtz, Curtis Carroll, Gretchen Becker, and Jessica Bruno.

New Business

Town Plan input for Broadband and Cell Coverage
The Committee discussed and drafted a communications section for the Halifax town plan.

VT Digital Economy Project

Grant application due on 3/15- for workshop and consultation for small businesses, downtown Wi-Fi zone and hotspot, or building or upgrading a town website. Holtz will complete and mail the application. Becker read a list of potential workshops provided by members of the community.

Update on VTel and Fairpoint Entry into Town

Fairpoint high speed is available across form the town office, so Holtz called Fairpoint and they did a loop test. Confirmed they can get high speed at the town office. HughesNet is half the speed of Fairpoint’s service. It’s $50/mo and packaged with long distance telephone at 768kbps for a 2 year contract.

Town Website

The Committee discussed RSS feeds for the town website. RSS feeds are only available via a blog page on Weebly. No change will be made at this time. Bruno will look into making a blog page for news that mimics the home page so that people can subscribe to the feed.
